I worked way longer than I should have. I can retire in peace. 😇
No, I work part time. But I just started that. I worked hard since 1979. I have paid my dues and have worked really hard.
I had to leave a career I truly loved. I was in financial services and I had a very high position with my company. My life changed so very dramatically in such a sudden change. I had been dxd with ms and had a relapse that put me in a wheelchair overnight. I was not mentally capable of continuing. It was as if I lost a huge part of my life/soul. I was always on the go. Raising 3 children on my own, going to school functions, taking kids to sports practices, keeping house clean, laundry, shopping, balancing my work schedule, etc. I never had to depend upon others for help. Until I went home from hospital with no use of left arm and leg. Suddenly, I had to depend on others for daily life. It was so hard and depressing. This was 20 years ago now. My income went from $75k per year to $18k. My kids are all married now with their own families. I decided to move to the place I dreamed of, Arizona. I did this all alone. My kids each live in different states. I have learned to appreciate life for the small accomplishments. I have zero vision in right eye, live with vertigo and numerous symptoms. I am mobile most of the time. I live in a 55+ community and am learning to love myself again. I can't drive, but I have the best 3 wheeled scooter to get around the community to use pool, etc. I have been through so much with my journey with ms. I no longer feel guilty about not working and accepting help. To those of you that have guilt, always remember YOU DID NOT CHOOSE MS!!
There are times that I feel like I could certainly go back to work...for sure and am quickly reminded when I stand up and stagger around that not on my best day. I would hate to be a reason that MSHA would be on site.
To all of my fellow MS Warriors it’s tough having the monster but staying positive as y’all are is so amazing. All we can do is take one day at a time & make the best of it. Luv y’all stay strong!!
