Has anyone experienced severe back pain when taking gabapentin? It was prescribed for burning pain down the outer side of my left leg.

I used to take Gabapentin but it made me gain weight while taking it. I was using it for generalized pain. I quit using it and started losing weight…I now have a cream that has lignocaine and Gabapentin in it plus other stuff and am doing ok with. That. It is for arthritis in my lower back now. Diagnosed with MS since 2013…

Right! My sister has it as well and she doesn't have MS. She has used lidocaine spray and it helped her.

Thank you. It’s nice to have a name to go with the pain. A starting point - if you will.

Meralgia paresthetica - could this be what you're having? I described a burning pain on the outside of my left thigh to my neurologist and he said it is most likely this. It's not a muscle pain or anything - feels bruised but isn't and only hurt on the outside (basically my skin). It doesn't bother me during the day - only at night when I'm relaxing. I used neosporin ointment with pain relief on it and it seemed to work enough so I could relax. My neurologist said to try lidocaine - basically anything topical to relieve the pain. He also said it is non life threatening and not dangerous to my health. Should go away on its own. Possibly from hitting my knee/leg on something and a nerve is just firing at random. I hope this helps you. When I need relief for something, I would much rather use something topical or natural rather than taking another pill...you never know how they will affect you!

Have a great afternoon!
Nikki
