I understand the DMT's are to slow progression but will I actually get some relief? The pain and the weakness are really rough. The exhaustion is debilitating. I was just diagnosed last week and the doctor wants to start Ocrevus. I haven't been able to find any information about relief, just progression. Love to hear how you responded once treatment was started
@A MyMSTeam Member that is a very good question and I bet you throw your hands up when I give my answer. It depends on whether you hit the jackpot with your first DMT try. Ocrevus is one of the best DMT's on the market currently, so your neurologist hasn't made an odd first guess on DMT's for you. I'm on Ocrevus' redheaded stepchild drug or Rituximab. I could tell Rituximab was my drug 2 days after my first infusion. I stood up straight and lost that feeling like you are about to fall. What I can say is you're trying a med that has worked for many but you get to see if it's your MS DMT. What's great is you find Ocrevus isn't the 1 for you that is a favor to you as there's like 20 more DMTs to try. I'm not saying Ocrevus won't be your MS DMT but if it's not, you will be fine. If it is, you will know shortly!
I like your comment here jimmyB and interesting. Maybe I have been on the wrong DMT for 10 years (tecfidera, now generic dimethyl fumraate) as it has never helped me feel better or improve any symptoms. I have been in a more progressive phase for about 2 years now But I must add that I have also had no new lesions this entire 10 years and that is a good thing! But still, I do wonder
I was on DMT Lemtrada I felt it made my MS progress for the worse I was falling more, weak, spasticity was worse etc. I decided to take a break from DMT I didn't take anything for about year and half...I took MRI on brain and spinal cord, brain lesion were the same, spinal cord had several new lesions throughout, also It showed arthritis on disk, so I wonder did the year and half break from not being on DMT cause the new lesion or the bad reaction from the Lemtrada I wonder, my next doctor appointment I'll ask him...
I do not know. I think mine did not help me feel any better but I had no new lesions for the whole 10 years so I think that is good. I wish it helped me feel better!
Mine was Tecfidera and now the generic Dimethyl Fumarate
I was on Aubagio for two years (oral med 14 MG daily) I developed an allergy to it. So yes it gave me some relief from fatigue and hopefully stopped progression. No new brain lesions or on the spine, but I had to stop and now am washing out of my system. I know that might not be helpful. It just is what it is. There are many DMT's though, so here's hoping for your right mix and relief from the pain soon.😍
