You also need two distinct episodes noted before they can confirm diagnosis. But yes, MRI, spinal tap, tons of labs. Good luck!

Jessica, I got an MRI with contrast and the neurologist saw lesions in areas jn my brain common for MS but sent me for a lumbar puncture testing to be sure. It took about 3 weeks to get that test result back that was positive for MS. If the neurologist you are seeing works with a lot of MS patients he/ she should be confident in treating you and you should not have to see another neurologist. Good luck in your journey.

That depends. Did they do an MRI with contrast? Were lesions detected? Were their new and old lesions? Did they occur in diffent areas of the brain white matter? I was diagnosed rather quickly after optic neuritis, so fortunate that was in 1992. But personally know people it has taken years.
