I’ve gone back to school, and have found that I just can’t do it. I was shocked to realize that my brain is screwed up. Ouch

Its hard to accept as did almost 24 years of school to become a Dr. only to have my brain somewhat fail me. I still feel sharp and knowledgeable, and sure I forget things at times but really, who doesn't. I just do what I can when I can and deal with others not walking in my shoes and being through it. They might understand some day but until then why waste time and energy.

I'm in school now, too. I know I have "wonky brain" but didn't realize it was as craptastic as it is. I was trying to take 3 classesat the same time. Unfortunately, the one is quite hard and would be if my brain weren't whackadoodle. I was trying to study and take notes and remember. I was trying to concentrate so much, my bidy would overload, I'd fall asleep and inevitably forget everything I had just learned. I couldn't process it and retain it. So, I dropped that class today and I'm going to give it a go on its own next semester. I spoke with my sister about this and she agreed it would be a good idea to take it on its own.
Not gonna lie. I was expecting to be able to handle three classes. Two of them are simple and the other difficult. My body and my brain had other ideas. I'm disappointed, frustrated, upset, confused, angry. But, then after thinking about it, even though it will take me about 2 semesters longer than the other students, I have every intention of graduating, I just have to give my brain/body extra time to accomplish the work. Its no different than what I've discovered about housework, grocery shopping, etc. I can do it, just like anyone else, it just takes me longer to accomplish the same amount of work I used to be able to do (and others can still do) in a shorter period of time. Does it suck? Heck, yes! I wish I could graduate in 3 semesters like I was supposed to. But, I want to do it right; I want to do a good job. I would rather have it take me longer, knowing I did well, than to keep on their schedule and do a lousy job. I don't just want to graduate. I want to stand on my own two feet. I want to kick butt and take names. And, if that means I need to learn to be more patient with myself and give myself the extra needed time my body/brain demands, then I'm going to because it'll be worth it in the end when I hobble across that stage with my cane and my leg braces.

You don’t have to accept it just acknowledge you have a serious condition. You’re in another phase of life where you need and have to take notes.

@A MyMSTeam Member, et al,

I have had MS 50+ years. Like DaveW-NatsFan I worked in the IT/Computer environment. My work career lasted 47 years, 38 with MS. Currently I am doing OK with the MS. I still have my mobility although getting slower as the aging process kicks in. My mobility devices include a quad cane and a walker without wheels. My cognitive ability remains intact.
