Low platelet counts can occur in people with MS for several reasons. Research suggests that people with MS may naturally experience changes in their platelets and tend to have more activated platelets compared to the general population. However, the full significance of this finding is still being studied.

Bruising and platelet-related issues can also be a side effect of certain MS treatments. If you're noticing unusual bruising or have concerns about your platelet counts, it's important to discuss this with your healthcare provider. Some MyMSTeam members have shared similar experiences with low platelets. One member noted that their platelet counts were low enough to cause easy bruising and excessive bleeding, though not low enough to require transfusion. Your doctor can diagnose any platelet issues through a complete blood count and may recommend adjusting your treatment plan if needed.
