Take it from someone previously in the remylination field, don't hold your breath as we had a therapy we were sure would be the missing piece, 15 years ago. Still not approved 🤐 There is always hope though.

There's exciting progress in remyelination research! Scientists expect remyelination treatments to become available within the next 5-10 years. These treatments aim to repair damaged myelin coating on nerve cells, which could help prevent MS progression and potentially restore function.

Currently being studied are:
• S1P receptor modulators
• Clemastine fumarate (an antihistamine)
• Sex hormones like testosterone Researchers are focusing on activating dormant oligodendrocytes - cells that naturally exist in the brain and spinal cord. About 5-8% of these cells are inactive in people with MS. The goal is to "wake up" these cells so they can rebuild myelin in damaged areas called MS plaques.

While some early trials haven't succeeded, researchers remain optimistic and continue testing new compounds. It's currently a massive, international collaborative effort to develop effective remyelination treatments.

Dr Levine has a promising therapy, but like other promising therapies, it’s a few years away from becoming a treatment.. a very interesting ted talk he did a couple of years ago explains what he has discovered thus far… 🤞
