I use SIMILASAN. It is Swiss made. I found it at CVS. Mine was a humming and it helps.

You can get ringing in the ears or problems with hearing depending if you have lesions near the brain stem or auditory pathways. I get ringing in my ears sometimes. Sometimes it’s really high pitched and can be so annoying.

That's a frustrating situation to be in — caught between two doctors with different opinions! The good news is that both could be partially right, because tinnitus (ringing in the ears) can be connected to MS *or* have other causes entirely.

When it comes to MS, tinnitus can result from:
- Demyelination (nerve damage) in the brainstem
- Lesions on or near the auditory nerve
- Ear muscle or eardrum spasms caused by MS-related nerve issues However, tinnitus can also be caused by things unrelated to MS, such as:
- An ear infection
- Excessive ear wax
- Exposure to loud noise
- Certain medications
- Head or neck injury
A MyMSTeam member had a similar experience — their muffled hearing and ringing turned out to be unrelated to their MS after testing. The best next step would be to ask for a referral to an audiologist — a hearing specialist who can run specific tests, like an auditory brainstem response (ABR) test or an MRI, to pinpoint the actual cause. That way, there's no more guessing, and a proper treatment plan can be put in place.
