Members responded to a question about whether MS is hereditary after a parent and adult child were both diagnosed, with many agreeing that while MS is not directly inherited, a genetic predisposition likely plays a role. Several members shared personal stories of multiple family members with MS and raised questions about environmental triggers, including industrial chemical exposure, geographic location, and vitamin D deficiency in colder climates. A recurring theme was that the cause of MS is likely a mix of genetics and environment, and members encouraged one another with compassion and shared a link to an MS Society article for more information.

Wow ! Thats a lot of people . I believe I was told there is only about a 3 % chance . Did you all grow up together or live close by to one another ? Just wondering if it was an environmental trigger in addition to genes

In hindsight my grandfather was in a wheelchair for the last 10 years of his life. The doctor said he had diabetic neuropathy. Knowing what I do now, I think it was a MS. I think those of us who have a genetic predisposition are triggered through some course of trauma. Trauma is relative. That's my opinion anyway

No-one in my family that I know of. I wonder how many complained to a doctor in the 1800s, and was understood???
