My son gave me the book, "Wahl's Protocol"to read and I'm beginning to think about a change in my diet. The change this book is suggesting is pretty severe. I'm not sure if I can go without dairy products, grains, and starches. I'm really going to miss ice cream, bread, and mashed potatoes!

I just got the book as well. Being on SSDI this is an expensive diet. With my brothers help he's growing a lot of the veggies for me. I need to try something as I have been on a downhill slide lately. Will post after I start to let everyone know how it's going.

I've started it. So far only going gluten-free and working on incorporating the 9 cups of fruits and veggies. It's hard! But I've definitely noticed a change in my energy level and concentration and it hasn't even been two weeks yet. Good luck to you!

Take it in phases. I gave up all red meat because I heard that it causes false inflammation. I ate A LOT of red meat!! 90 days I stopped eating red meat. I decided I wanted a good burger or steak so I did -- I was immediately fatigued and spasms were 70x's worse!!! I have "cheated" a few times and paid everytime! I have done the same with all drinks other them water with no additives or sweeteners -- they're horrible now!! Dairy is tough -- I switched to almond milk. It looked disgusting in color and thickness - I wanted to hold my nose and expected some auto reject to happen!! I was pleasantly surprised I liked it!! Had a bowl of cereal with 2% and my gut went into convulsions (along with my bowels!) -- no high fructose corn syrup (it's just bad for anyone) -- I still put cream in my coffee but select the fat free half and half (almond milk doesn't cut it and I don't like the nondairy creamers). Ice cream has been quite the challenge! I don't eat it often but when I do I notice my stomach gets bloated which means inflammation. Inflammation is the enemy of our immune system which attacks false inflammation in turn making us symptomatic and more sick. So I am still working on the dairy but have it for now in very small amounts. Someone told me if I thought a baby calf could feed on human breast milk and be ok. Being Captain obvious I said "probably not" -- the response was, if they wouldn't do well on our milk why do we think we can on theirs? Point taken, but ice cream and cheese are not yet eliminated. Next test was gluten. Let me tell ya, everything and I mean everything that isn't fresh pretty much has gluten or high fructose corn syrup involved!! AND I am also Italian so our entire diet includes pasta, bread, beef, fat and cheese somewhere within almost every recipe!! So 90 days no gluten -- besides losing weight and feeling like I may be starving -- I did feel better. Spasms decreased GI improved (I have had bowel issues since I was a teen!) -- I reintroduced a little bread (fresh baked bread! W/out HFCS (high fructose ...) and found that there wasn't a huge fluctuation in my physical response -- I was ecstatic!!! I can eat bread and pasta!!! Until I really had a pasta dinner with garlic bread :( So I can handle very small amounts of gluten but at least I don't have to be that much more of a pain in the ass at a party! Refined sugar next (coffee drinker here) -- that also meant cereal, baked foods, etc. etc., pain in joints of hands and fingers showed incredible improvements!! Unreal! I brought it back into my diet after 3 weeks but know it's gotta go. So, here is my conclusion --- diet effects us. I can be stubborn and eat what I want knowing it effects me... Or, I can feel better and give up ice cream and all my favorite things. I just got Wahls Protocol and when I read 9 cups of veggies a day I about fell over!! But it's 9 cups of uncooked veggies and I don't know if you ever cooked spinach but it shrils to almost nothing! Good luck!

I also have been thinking about the Wahls Protocol but like both @A MyMSTeam Member & @A MyMSTeam Member I know I will have a tough time with some of the 'can't haves' and the price of the food you can have. I am a stress eater who likes sweets...I had already given up most refined/processed products and most dairy because these things make me physically feel not well. I wonder if easing into this would be helpful at all? Does anyone want to start a group to keep in touch about this subject so we can share challenges and ideas? I know it would be helpful to me. I do believe you can affect your health greatly with diet.

I also subscribe to Dr. Wahl's blog. I read it and use what I can.But now way will I eat meat. There are some fabulous vegan substitutions for just about anything. You don't have to give up ice cream, cream sauce, cheese cake, etc. Gluten free baking is trickier. It took me 2.5 years to come up with a good vegan, gluten free bread. Now the bread I make is so good, the kids beg for it. Usually a loaf is devoured in one evening.
