Going from no falls to daily falls in just 8 weeks is really alarming, and it makes complete sense to feel frustrated — especially when you're already doing PT and still struggling. Here are some steps worth considering while navigating this: Talk to your neurologist about mobility aids
Even without a definitive diagnosis, using a cane or walker right now could prevent serious injury. A MyMSTeam member shared that getting a walker made a huge difference with balance and pain, even if it felt frustrating to need one. Ask for an occupational therapist (OT) referral
An OT can assess your home for fall hazards and suggest modifications like:
- Grab bars in bathrooms and hallways
- Removing loose rugs or securing edges
- Better lighting throughout your home
- Safer ways to get in and out of bed Be extra cautious during high-risk moments
Falls often happen during routine activities like walking, bathing, or cooking. Try not to rush, and keep any mobility aid close — even if you don't always feel like you need it. Keep pushing for answers
If your neurologist hasn't yet ordered imaging like an MRI, or nerve/muscle tests, it may be worth asking about those. The rapid progression of your symptoms deserves thorough investigation. Don't hesitate to advocate for yourself — you know your body best.
