Steps To Lessen the Impact of Multiple Sclerosis

Written by Beth Schneider
Posted on October 20, 2021

It’s no secret that living with multiple sclerosis (MS) can complicate daily life. MyMSTeam conducted a survey in March 2020 to better understand how MS impacts the everyday activities of MyMSTeam members and how they cope. The survey included 928 individuals in the United States who are living with MS.

MyMSTeam asked members about:

  • The physical, social, and emotional impact of MS on their lives
  • The steps they take to lessen the impact of MS

MyMSTeam shares the results of these member surveys so our community can learn, collectively, from each other’s experiences.

MyMSTeam members reported that physical symptoms can make doing chores or just getting out and about more difficult. Cognitive symptoms can interfere with work or school. These difficulties can lead to feelings of stress, anxiety, depression, and isolation.

Read more about the results from the MyMSTeam survey The Impact of Multiple Sclerosis on Emotions and Quality of Life.

While many members of MyMSTeam reported facing struggles, they also shared the ways they manage MS. The top approaches are learning about new treatment options and staying on prescribed medications. Members also stay informed about MS, including having meaningful conversations with their doctor as well as connecting and learning from others who have MS.
